Distance is explained with example.
The total length travelled by an object is known as distance. It is a scalar quantity. It means no direction.
If X1, X2 and X3 are distances travelled by an object.
Total distance = X1 + X2 + X3
The unit of the distance is m, cm or km.
Eg 1:-
Travelling of an object is showing below:
Calculate displacement of the object.
Distance of the object = Sum of all length travelled by an object
= 200
= 200 m
Hence, total length covered by an object is 200 m.
Eg 2 :-
Travelling of an object is showing below:
Calculate displacement of the object.
Distance of the object = Sum of all length travelled by an object
= 200 + 150
= 350 m
Hence, total length covered by an object is 350 m.
Eg 3 :-
Travelling of an object is showing below:
Calculate displacement of the object.
Distance of the object = Sum of all length travelled by an object
= 200 + 200
= 400 m
Hence, total length covered by an object is 400 m.
